For background, he almost went bankrupt in 2008, with Tesla’s balance sheets looking terrible and SpaceX having difficulty launching its Falcon1 rockets.

NASA decided that SpaceX was exactly what it needed to take supplies into space, and Tesla had a successful initial public offering.

So, crisis averted, but how high is Musk’s net worth nowadays?

So, what is Elon Musk’s net worth?

Short answer: $140 billion

At the end of 2020, Elon Musk had a net worth of $24.6 billion. Tesla’s stock skyrocketed, making his net worth closer to $170 billion a year later.

With the help of Tesla stock, Musk’s net worth peaked at around $320 million in November of 2021. But 2022 hasn’t been as great for Elon’s net worth.

As of December 2023, Elon Musk’s net worth is around $140 billion, according to Forbes’ real-time net worth tracker.

As Bloomberg notes, Musk’s net worth has decreased by more than $130 billion, or around 48%, in the last year.

Much of that decrease is due to Tesla’s falling stock prices. Musk owns an estimated 25% of Tesla, and he uses many of his stocks as collateral for loans.

He also owns around 47% of SpaceX, which carries a value of about $125 billion. That adds another $50 billion or so to Musk’s net worth after adjustments.

Musk recently purchased a major stake in Twitter for $44 billion. Musk owns an estimated 79% of the company, with much of that value tied to the $44 billion purchase price.

Bloomberg includes an estimated $4.6 billion liability in its net worth calculation tied to the Twitter purchase.

That, along with the alleged $17.8 billion cash used in the purchase, technically brings Musk’s net worth down, but that could change as Twitter’s value fluctuates.

As a note, net worth estimates like this are nothing more than estimates. The exact numbers for Elon Musk’s net worth are unknown. These figures are gathered from public information to estimate the number.

The $349 Finalmouse Centerpiece is the shape of any standard keyboard, but that’s where the comparison ends.

Are you ready for it? The keyboard features a screen underneath the keys that can show videos or respond to key presses.

To achieve this, the Centerpiece uses transparent mechanical switches and keycaps. That’s similar to how macroboards like Elgato’s Streamdeck work.

How it’s different is that the key switches are mechanical.

As a result, Finalmouse will offer two variants, a standard linear Cherry MX-style switch and a hall effect switch that utilizes magnets for actuation.

While regular switches only have an on-and-off state, the hall effect enables analog input.

In any case, Finalmouse’s hall effect keyboard switch has the ability to convey a range of information, similar to the triggers on a gaming controller.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t said if the hall effect switches are set up for analog input. It’s possible they are using them to register digital on/off states.

Most importantly, the screen displays interactive animated visualizations. According to Finalmouse, the keyboard can store three skins at one time and doesn’t require a program running on your PC to work.

Equally important, the skins are powered by Unreal Engine 5, thanks to the keyboard’s onboard CPU and GPU. Additionally, it’s a 65 percent layout, so you get arrow keys but no F-row.

The Finalmouse Centerpiece costs $349. Previous products have dropped as short-run, hard-to-get items, and we expect this keyboard will follow that pattern.

The company says it will release early next year.

The planned removal of the service is in mid-February of 2023, according to a support article Nvidia posted on December 16. GameStream has been available for nearly a decade at this point.

GameStream allowed users to stream games to their Shield devices in up to 4K 60fps.

Think of it as an in-home self-hosted version of the company’s cloud game streaming services, GeForce NOW.

The game streaming service didn’t require a monthly subscription to use. Instead, users needed a powerful gaming PC with an Nvidia graphics card on the same network.

The PC would run the game and stream it to the Nvidia Shield device.

The company has also opted to remove GameStream completely from Shield devices and the GeForce Experience app on PC that handled the streaming side.

Nvidia says users can replace it with Steam Link, Valve’s built-in game streaming service inside Steam. While that is true, some users say that Steam Link is inferior in quality to GameStream.

We wonder what this means for the Nvidia Shield family of devices. Is this the start of Nvidia phasing those out?

The tablet hasn’t been sold for some time now, and the latest Shield TV device came out in 2019.

We commend Nvidia for supporting its older devices for so long. That can’t be cheap, especially when bringing new device features.

Users can possibly avoid the mid-February update to keep GameStream for a little longer. But there’s no guarantee it won’t stop working entirely at some point after that.

We received a set of teasers from Asus regarding a potential 3D OLED laptop, with each teaser revealing a bit more about the product.

The first teaser is a video with the word “Asus” written in 3D. As the words lift off the page, they flip to “CES, Jan. 5.”

The second teaser is a 3D image with a hidden message.

This is where you get the first indication that the announcement will have something to do with an Asus laptop, as there are various images on the page itself.

If you stare at the image long enough, you will eventually see the message ‘3D OLED’ pop out.

The third and final teaser is another video and the most exciting.

The video shows 3D images coming out of a laptop display. It ends with ‘A NEW DIMENSION FOR OLED’ written under the laptop screen.

While the teaser seems pretty obvious, it may be teasing multiple products simultaneously.

We can’t rule out the possibility that Asus will launch a 3D OLED display and a new line of laptops at CES. Only time will tell, and we can’t wait for January.

If you ask ChatGPT what it is, you get a pretty comprehensive answer:

Think of ChatGPT as a general-use Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant. It understands conversational English, humor, essay structure, and more.

It’s also insanely popular, with over a million people logging into the free service in the first week it was open.

And don’t forget, the more we talk to it, the better it gets as it learns from our questions.

How does ChatGPT work?

If you’ve ever typed a message to a chatbot on a company website, you already know how to use ChatGPT. Those chatbots are scripted or monitored by real humans, but ChatGPT is not.

The AI model can “answer followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.” The questions can be of almost any form, topic, or task.

OpenAI used books, websites, and articles to train the AI behind the chatbot. Those must have included various subjects, as you can get the AI to do your coding work for you.

The answers you get are generated from probabilities based on your input questions. You can trip it up by asking recent history questions, however, as the dataset only goes up to 2021.

What can you use ChatGPT for?

Honestly, the better question is – what can’t you use it for? ChatGPT can write stories, songs, code, and more.

People have been using it to generate AI art prompts to feed into Midjourney and DALL-E. That gives better-quality images, as the prompts generated are oddly specific.

It might even be better than human writing prompts. After all, the same AI training models that power the majority of AI-generated art are the same models powering ChatGPT.

Another impressive use we noticed was creating a virtual machine inside ChatGPT. That’s right, inside the chat prompt, you can create another computer.

That means you can create a fully-featured computer with an internet connection, a web browser, and more.

When it comes to coding or science questions, the results are even better than the number one search engine, Google Search.

Do we have to worry about ChatGPT?

Maybe not. While we shouldn’t trust ChatGPT’s response to its potential danger, we can trust other standardized tests.

Take a standard IQ test on which ChatGPT gained a “low average” score of 83. Hardly a super-villain genius level, although it has only been ‘alive’ for a few months, so who knows once it gets more training data.

We’re not sure AI will put people out of work just yet. The number of times it returns incorrect data is still too high. In all cases, you already need an idea of the answer to be able to evaluate ChatGPT’s output.

The AI is only as good as the data sets it is trained on. Those include inherent bias, as does the world it came from.

It could change how work is done. Imagine writing code, then using the AI to debug it. Or the converse, with the AI writing it and you debugging to ensure no errors.

Since the earliest days of the pandemic, popular single-board computers have been a scarce commodity.

If you visited the storefront of any approved reseller, you’d see the same three words: “Out of stock.” 

But now, as the semiconductor shortage shows signs of easing, that’s about to change.

These brightening conditions have allowed the release of over 100,000 Raspberry Pi computers for single-unit sales. 

According to Raspberry Pi founder Ebon Upton, these units are split across the company’s most popular machines.

These include the “Zero W, 3A+ and the 2GB and 4GB variants of Raspberry Pi 4.” 

This is welcome news for hobbyists, who previously were forced to pay the extreme markups demanded by Raspberry Pi scalpers.

In some cases, the company’s most powerful machines were sold for 400 percent above retail. 

Why was it so hard to buy a Raspberry Pi?

The Raspberry Pi was especially affected by the semiconductor crunch.

As a relatively small customer (compared to the likes of Samsung or Apple), it lacked the power and influence to demand priority from manufacturers. 

Complicating matters further, its chipsets use older semiconductor manufacturing processes.

The BCM2711 chipset that powers the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B uses a 28nm node. That’s the same as many industrial and automotive chipsets. 

In early 2021, the semiconductor industry was devastated by two freak incidents: the first was a fire at a Japanese semiconductor fab owned by Renesas, which primarily catered to industrial and automotive customers. 

The other was a cold snap in Texas, which resulted in the collapse of the state’s power grid. As a result, Samsung and NXP were forced to stop manufacturing chipsets. 

Semiconductor manufacturing isn’t like a faucet. You can’t just turn it on and off. It takes time — a lot of time — to restart production.

And this only exacerbated the woes faced by Raspberry Pi, which faced increased competition for precious manufacturing time. 

Industrial and automotive users either switched foundries, often to TSMC, which makes the Pi’s BCM2711 processor, or redesigned their chips to use the same 28nm node as the Raspberry Pi. You see where this is going.

There’s also the demand element. Raspberry Pi computers are great educational tools, but they’re also good for building embedded devices.

At the start of the pandemic, these computers were increasingly found in medical equipment and other physical hardware products. 

And so, individual users were forced to wait in an ever-lengthening line. 

Price hikes

It’s not all good news. Faced with higher production costs, Raspberry Pi is hiking the price of some key devices.

The cheapest Raspberry Pi Zero machine will jump from $5 to $10, whereas the more powerful Raspberry Pi Zero W now costs $15, up from $10. 

Writing on the official Raspberry Pi blog, Upton said this was a necessary step, due to the low margins of the computers.

Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese billionaire, is planning to pay for eight more people on his private mission around the Moon.

Yusaku Maezawa is not any ordinary billionaire, and he has proven that on many occasions. His Dear Moon Project is assumed to take him on a trip around the moon with the help of Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket.

In 2018, Maezawa was introduced as the first space tourist to have the chance to circle the moon onboard a SpaceX rocket. 

However, his plans have changed quite a lot since then. Last year, he even started a campaign to find a female partner to accompany him on the space trip around the moon. More than 27,000 women applied through his website.

Even an entire reality show was supposed to follow Maezawa throughout the selection process until he finds a partner.

They named the reality show “Full Moon Lovers.” But before the reality show started, Maezawa canceled everything. He later tweeted and apologized to everyone involved.

Fast forward to 2021, Maezawa is back again with another initiative to bring someone on board the SpaceX starship with him. He doesn’t aim for just one person this time, but eight people will join him for free. Also, he doesn’t aim at any romantic relationship.

Instead, he wants to bring on board eight people with artistic aspirations.

At least that’s what we have concluded from his YouTube video in which he broadened the scope of the term artist by saying, “maybe every single person is doing something creative could be called an artist.”

Anyone interested in joining Maezawa on a trip around the moon can apply through his website, DearMoon.earth. The pre-registration process is open for everyone and ends on March 14th, 2021.

Then comes initial screening, followed by an additional assessment. Those that pass will get to do an online interview. The final interview and the medical checkup will take place in late May this year. 

They mentioned that there would be one or two more people (probably SpaceX astronauts) on board. Furthermore, the flight is planned for 2023.

Short answer: Yes, but don’t expect to see anything on your monitor

See, there’s a reason that your graphics card has the word ‘graphics’ in the name.

It provides the signal out to your monitor, so while you can technically boot your PC without it, you won’t see anything on your screen.
