We’ve come a long way from blow torches and metal dabbers — and now, the folks at Grenco Science are eager to bring your concentrate experience to yet another level of ease and excellence.

Fusing the power of a desktop rig with the convenience of a portable e-nail, the company’s newly released G Pen Hyer packs a powerful punch that you can easily enjoy anywhere (anywhere that vaping is socially acceptable, at least).

Quick Verdict

Grenco Science has created a powerful device that makes taking heroic doses of dabs as easy as pushing a couple of buttons. Combined with a solid water filtration system, the Hyer’s durability and strength will likely serve any concentrate-heads needs for years to come.

The kit comes with a large quartz bowl and a 14mm male glass adapter, allowing it to fit into any corresponding water filtration device (10mm and 18mm adapters sold separately).

G Pen couples that device with a 6,000mAh rechargeable battery that looks not unlike something Darth Vader might use in his off-hours. But most importantly, it provides crucially satisfying clouds even after hours of use.

Intrigued? So were we. Let’s dive into some more of the equipment details.

Battery

The anodized aluminum encased battery is indeed a sturdy one. It also employs the provided USB-C charger to offer quick, pass-through charging — which is helpful because this battery is a beast.

That level of power allows the Hyer’s chambers to reach temperatures ranging from 482 degrees Fahrenheit to the most-likely-only-use-when-you’re-cleaning-it temperature of 842 degrees.

Concentrate tank

The e-nail component of the device offers a huge, full quartz chamber with a stainless-steel heating element. On top of that, the kit includes a magnetic carb cap with dual ceramic airflow intakes that snap into place.

Connector cable

The kit provides a strong, braided power cable that satisfyingly snaps into its two connector ports without any headaches.

Travel case

Grenco provides a hemp travel case with specialized compartments for each component for easy mobility.

Dry herb tank (sold separately)

If dry herb is more your speed, the device can accommodate your tastes with the help of a $49.95 adapter

That piece sports a fully ceramic oven that can hold a half-gram of material. Additionally, it features a preheated recirculating air intake system.

The Pros

Easy to use

At the end of the day, Hyer’s biggest selling point is its ease of use. You open the chamber, put your goodies inside, double-click the battery, and voila — you’re good to go (give or take 30 seconds).

The device automatically turns off when dormant, though users can do this manually.

Cleaning is a dream

Cleaning the device is as simple as taking a q-tip to the leftover material in your chamber.

This was a particularly impressive element of the device, as I often find the maintenance of many vaporizers to be, frankly, a pain in the ass.

While users will likely stay in the device’s lower 3-4 temperature settings, the top setting is also a great way to loosen up any stubborn residue clinging to your chamber.

Great clouds

While it probably goes without saying that a battery of that magnitude can churn out some big clouds, we’re going to say it anyway: this thing churns out some massive clouds.

The larger-than-expected chamber really allows you to pack liberally while taking your time with a larger haul of product.

The Cons

Limited portability

While the device is usable on the go, remember you’ll need to pack a water filtration device, too.

Given the nature of its design, the Hyer doesn’t really work as a direct-to-mouth device like other vaporizers might (believe me, I tried). However, this might be a petty concern, depending on your usage.

Pre-set heat only

For a piece of hardware with so many bells and whistles, I was surprised that the battery only had five preheat settings.

Granted, this may be less of a problem for concentrate users. Still, the Hyer better serves medical patients hoping to reach a precise temperature point by vaporizing flower with a more precise heating instrument.

Not ideal for flower

Ultimately, while the concentrate chamber works beautifully, I had less satisfaction using the device with dry herb.

While it certainly works, I felt like I went through my packed product quickly, without the expected punch such a quantity normally provides.

If you’re interested in vaping flower exclusively, you’d have a better time using a powerful handheld device over the Hyer.

Final Verdict

All in all, G Pen has created a powerful device that makes taking heroic doses of dabs as easy as pushing a couple of buttons.

Combined with a solid water filtration system, the Hyer’s durability and strength will likely serve any concentrate-heads needs for years to come.

You can find the G Pen Hyer on the company’s website for $249.95.

Review: DaVinci IQ2 Carbon Fiber https://knowtechie.com/review-davinci-iq2-carbon-fiber/ Tue, 09 Aug 2022 12:24:52 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=225914 The DaVinci IQ2 is a powerful, fun, and easy-to-use vaporizer, producing clouds that will impress even the biggest vape skeptics.

Howdy vape fans! Today we’re taking a look at Davinci’s new IQ2 Carbon Fiber: a high-tech, hand-held beast of a flower/concentrate vaporizer that stands to impress medical, casual, and session-driven users of all stripes.

The Davinci IQ2C comes loaded with interesting features, gadgety attachments, and tons of power for such a tiny, portable device.

The device comes in beautiful packaging with a workbench worth of tools. There’s a percolating hydrotube (more on this later) and a dosage grinder designed to fill the included dosage pods.

On top of that, it includes an engraved keychain with attached poker tool, an 1850 battery, an additional mouthpiece, and some cleaning supplies (e.g. q-tips and alcohol swabs).

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s dive into the review.

The lowdown

Image: Chris Ceasar / KnowTechie

While the IQ2C brings along a small initial learning curve with all its bells and whistles, the basic process is pretty straightforward: flip open the bottom of the unit, pour up to a half-gram of product into its oven, close, click five times, and enjoy.

Can’t get any easier than that! An adjustable ball allows you to tightly pack a smaller amount if you so choose.

The oven heats up to 430 degrees Fahrenheit in just about a minute — not bad at all for a portable vaporizer.

It also boasts two heating modes: users can set an exact numerical temperature or employ one of four customizable “smart paths,” which gradually increase the temperature throughout your session.

I found the temperature readings to be quite precise, allowing me to get two sessions out of one pack fairly easily.

Most importantly, the IQ2C delivers large, potent clouds that had a surprising kick for me. A friend who is a bit of a vape-skeptic reluctantly agreed.

The airflow adjuster is a nice touch, though I’ve never really moved it from the “fully open” position.

Stand-out features

DaVinci IQ2 Carbon Fiber
Image: Chris Caesar / KnowTechie

Beyond the ease-of-use of its basic features, the device also features some pretty slick add-ons, including:

Bluetooth-Enhanced App: Android and iPhone users can download the “DaVinci” app, pair it via Bluetooth, and enjoy a surprising amount of customization.

For example, the app allows you to customize the temperature/length of your four “Smart Path” presets. Also, it allows you to monitor the extent of your THC or CBD intake (assuming you know your strain’s percentages).

That last feature can be super helpful for medicinal patients trying to determine their ideal dosages.

Dosage Pods/Grinder: The kit also comes with six 0.2 gram pods that can easily be filled with an included specialized grinder that offers slots for each pod.

While I found these a bit annoying to clean, they provide an easy way to swap bowls or strains on the go.

Hydrotube/Percolator: The device does a great job cooling down vapor already, but the included hydrotube attachment really takes it to another level.

I recommend keeping it in your fridge so you’ll always have an extra layer of cooling power, especially if you’re vaping at higher temperatures. It’ll also do wonders for the taste of your cannabis.

Minor drawbacks

DaVinci IQ2 Carbon Fiber
Image: Chris Caesar / KnowTechie

While the IQ2C is, overall, a fantastic device, here are a few things to consider before making a purchase.

Charging Time/Battery: The device comes with one detachable 1850 battery, which is a great feature — if you have multiple batteries and an external charger on hand.

Without it, though, expect a full three-hour charge to provide enough power for about six sessions.

That’s by no means bad, especially when considering how powerful this device is, but something to keep in mind if you prefer a longer charge.

Cleaning Issues: Cleaning the device — especially the hydrotube — can be a little challenging at points. I found that resin tends to leak through toward the mouthpiece, and that completely scraping out the bowl/cooling tube can be time-consuming.

Granted, it’s not a large enough frustration for me to give up on the device, but if you’re really keen on keeping your devices shimmering, it might be an unwelcomed challenge.

Cost: The device retails for $500, which is certainly a steep ask. While the device has become my go-to vaporizer, many might opt for the original IQ2 model instead (priced at $295).

While I understand this is a limited collector’s device, it’s hard to see $200+ in value here from the original IQ2 model, and more price-conscious shoppers might have better luck going with that.

The verdict

All in all, the device is a powerful, fun, and easy-to-use vaporizer, producing clouds that will impress even the biggest vape skeptics.

If you can afford it — and have spare batteries for seamless charging and use — it can really step up your vaping game.

For those looking for a quality vape but have a hard time swallowing the $500 price, you do have options. As mentioned, the original IQ2 is a solid vaporizer for under $300.

On top of that, the G Pen Elite II packs a punch for $249. If you prefer your vapes more unique, the Proxy by Puffco is a great choice. Finally, if money is not an option and you just want something ridiculous, this $600 gravity bong is worth checking out.

If you are set on the DaVinci IQ2 Carbon Fiber edition, however, you can snag it directly from DaVinci for $499. We should mention that these are going to go quick. Only 1,000 of them are being made.

We’ve all been there: grinding ounces of flower, carefully tweaking oven temperatures, constantly stirring butter on a stovetop for hours — taking every precaution you can to ensure your infused treats deliver the biggest bang for their buck.

Well, good news, edible fans: Ardent has taken everything frustrating about making edibles, dropped them in a trash incinerator, and sent them straight to hell where they belong.

The Ardent FX is, according to the manufacturer, is an “all-in-one, portable canna-kitchen” that is suitable for both the amateur and gourmet canna-chef.

It is a slick, discrete device that seamlessly fits into your kitchen, without raising suspicion from any less enlightened guests who may come along — all while making the best cannabutter you’ve ever tasted.

Here’s what we’ll be covering in this Ardent FX review:

How does the Ardent FX work?

ardent fx on grass
Image: Chris Caesar / KnowTechie

The Ardent FX is, simply, a beast that can precisely decarboxylate, simmer, and strain your cannabutter with industrial precision, accommodating up to four ounces of product in a single cook.

The process has never been easier: the manual boasts that you can throw whole nugs into the chamber (“stems and all”!) without wasting time grinding up large quantities of flower — pretty impressive.

At the push of a button, you can choose whether to decarboxylate for CBD or THC activation, and the Ardent FX will do the rest: employing its advanced temperature analysis to keep your buds at the exact, consistent heat necessary to reach their fullest, stoniest potential.

Once that process is complete, throw in an appropriate amount of fat, hit another button, and let the Ardent FX go to work simmering your buds at their ideal infusion temperature.

Once complete, you can whip out the included French Press-esqe strainer to easily remove the plant material from your newly infused creation.

Helpfully, the kit also comes with pre-measured ice cube boxes you can use to store your cannabutter for the long term.

Ardent FX: Does it get the job done?

ardent fx
Image: Chris Caesar / KnowTechie

One Elden Ring-filled Saturday afternoon, I decided to give the Ardent FX a whirl. I plopped about two grams of flower into the device (without grinding), pushed the “decarb” button, and went back to gaming.

About an hour into the process, I went back into the kitchen for a progress check. Still cooking, but the only thing I could smell was some soap from a recent dishwashing session — which is definitely not the case when I “decarb” in my oven.

In fairness, I was only cooking a small amount — your mileage may vary — but the lack of a tell-tale smell was a big plus.

Once the device has determined you’ve reached the optimal temperature and cooking time (it took a little under two hours for me), it will alert you to start the second phase: infusion.

I opened the container and found some great-smelling weed that only looked lightly toasted. I added three tablespoons of butter, closed the top, and pressed the “infuse” button.

About three hours later, the Ardent FX was full of lovely green cannabutter. I’ve always found straining cannabutter to be a bit more of a hassle than it is worth, but with the strainer, it was an absolute breeze.

Moment of truth

ardent fx nova review
Image: Chris Caesar / KnowTechie

I took a little cornbread I keep around for this very purpose (don’t knock it ‘till you’ve tried it), soaked up a generous portion of cannabutter, and chowed down.

Sparing you some of the more embarrassing details of the rest of my evening, suffice to say: the Ardent FX works. And it works well.

Two grams of unground bud achieved a potency level that surprised me. I also enjoyed not having any plant matter stuck in my teeth.

Furthermore, speaking as a guy who really enjoys his edibles, it was pretty remarkable how Ardent automated a usually tedious and time-consuming process while still producing an absolutely killer product in the end.

One minor complaint: despite what the manual says, I should’ve trusted my gut and ground the weed before placing it in the device. When the fat actually melted down, the larger buds were only partially immersed in it.

I could see how whole nugs might work well when infusing large volumes, but a quick bit of grinding might be worth the effort if you’re only doing a gram or two.

By the way: If dipping cornbread in butter isn’t your bag, the Ardent FX also provides a “baking” functionality that allows you to prepare infused muffins, etc. right inside the device. Very cool!

Is Ardent FX right for you?

ardent fx edibles
Image: Chris Caesar / KnowTechie

I recommend the Ardent FX to any infused cookers in your life and I think I’ll be using mine for a long time. Some issues to consider when deciding whether to make your a purchase include:

  • Price: Unfortunately, the Ardent FX retails for $299, which can be a steep ask for some weed consumers. However, with its ease of use and enhanced functionality, it does feel like you’re getting a good value with your purchase.
  • Could use better indicators: I was a little surprised that the device, for all its bells and whistles, didn’t include an audio cue to indicate when a step in the cooking process was complete.

Time frame varies based on the amount of flower in the device. Predicting when it’s finished with a job isn’t easy. Meaning, that I had to keep returning to the kitchen to check on the device throughout the day.

Also, while a minor issue, the indicator lights sometimes bleed together, making it hard to tell which option is actually selected on the device (try looking at it directly at table level for clarity).

  • Takes a long time: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and carefully constructing the most potent cannabutter possible is also a precise, time-consuming process.

However, expect the full infusion to take anywhere from 5-6 hours, which might be a big ask for some folks. On the other hand, if you plan ahead, the wait seems to be very much worth it.

Final verdict

If you’re an edible fan who can spare the $300, the Ardent FX is a stunning device that will impress even the most cynical weed consumers.

The Ardent FX is a great addition to any home with a growing collection of “already been vaped” (ABV) weed, or folks who like experimenting with potency.Ultimately, it is the easiest (yet most rewarding) experience I’ve ever had making my edibles.

The Ardent FX is available via the company’s website, Amazon and eBay.
