All the current known issues with Windows 11 — and their fixes

Technology can make our lives more efficient — but, of course, it has its glitches.

The new Windows 11 is no expectation. Here are five of the common issues with the system and potential solutions.

1. Memory Leaks 

One of the problems with the new software is memory leaks, which happen when your computer improperly manages storage.

When using an app, your device could consume your memory in the background. This creates problems by overusing your limited resources and can lead to slow-responding applications or even crashes. 

One way to fix the issue is to free up space manually. The first step is to open the task manager and find Windows Explorer in your list of processes.

Right-click it and select the restart option. You may need to do this regularly if you keep your computer on often. 

You can also look into software solutions like CleanMem. Just double-check that it doesn’t come with any viruses. You can even try using preinstalled applications, like your notepad feature. 

2. Performance Lags

Windows can help manage multiple tasks, but some users have reported performance issues.

One of them is the AMD processors, which can slow things down, especially when gaming. In fact, in October of 2021, ADM warned that these units could drop performance up to 15%. 

To fix this issue, try disabling visual effects, reducing CPU consumption. Also, try disabling startup apps and programs.

Search your task manager to find specific programs. You could also try temporarily disabling your antivirus software — though it’s important to remember to re-enable it later to fight the rising number of cybersecurity attacks.

Here are some other methods to test out:

• Turn off your notifications
• Remove temporary files
• Turn on a high-performance power plan

3. Compatibility Problems

You want your computer to connect no matter the software you’re using. However, Windows 11 is only compatible with specific systems.

It needs to meet the requirement of having a device supporting Trusted Platform Module 2.0. If you don’t have compatible software, you may not receive updates. 

If you’re looking for a workaround, try freeing up your disk space. The new system will need plenty of hard drive storage to install. 

4. Inability to Search in the Start Menu

Some users have faced issues with the Start menu search bar. Not being able to look up apps can be inconvenient.

Microsoft recommends you open the Run box by clicking Win+R on your keyboard. Then simply close it again since you don’t need to run the system. 

If that doesn’t work, you can also try restarting your computer to help clear the system. Another option is to reboot the SearchHost.Exe by following these steps:

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open your task manager

2. Go into the Details tab and right-click the SearchHost.exe 

3. Click end the task

4. Confirm the process

5. Reopen the search window 

5. Empty Widget Board

The new update has a feature known as a widget board, which holds small apps, like your calendar.

However, some people have noticed their board appears empty. Other problems with the system may occur, such as cropped widgets. 

Try signing in and out. Find your account picture in the top right corner and select sign out. You can also enable the “show widgets” button or disable your graphic driver.
